Ride horses in beautiful Campbell Valley Park for as little as $5 per hour!

A totally new concept is being launched in Langley. Back in the Saddle Again Trail Rides is offering a new way to enjoy horseback riding. Based on the concept of a limited membership (similar to a gym, spar or golf course membership), Back in the Saddle is offering membership in a horseback riding club. For the introductory fee of $200 per month, minimum 1-year contract, members are entitled to ride as often as they please.

People who would benefit from this membership would be serious horse enthusiasts who want to ride at least three times per month. Members can ride as often as they wish, and would have priority on time slots and choice of horses. The average cost just for basic care of a privately owned horse is $550 per month, so the economics of this program are obvious.

Darcy Campbell, owner of Back in the Saddle, has come up with this concept to reward loyal customers and to make horseback riding more affordable to people who would take advantage of frequent riding. In an interview, Darcy states that, “Horse ownership for an individual is too expensive and too time consuming for the average person.”

By having the ranch background and being able to buy feed in large quantities direct from the grower, by doing all basic veterinary work, and using resources not available to 1-horse owners, Darcy has kept prices down to a more reasonable level. On the other side of the coin, by members paying monthly, year-round, it allows a more even cash flow so budgeting is consistent.

Members book rides in advance and horses are delivered to the park saddled and ready to go. An evaluation is done and when members and staff are comfortable with member’s abilities, members can ride on their own. Members receive monthly newsletters that let members share stories and ideas. Members can also plan trips to more exotic places. Beach rides, cattle drives, etc…Game days and cattle penning are other ideas that Darcy would like to promote.

As a kick off, Back in the Saddle is offering the first 10 members that pay for a year in advance a price of an amazing $1,000. That is only $85 per month to ride as often as you want!

For more information, contact Darcy at 604-308-7358 or ridinginfo@yahoo.ca or go to www.backinthesaddle.ca

My Dad, Craig Frazer invested in a hobby farm at the end of the Berry Road in South Langley in the late 50’s. My two brothers and sister often took friends along to ride the horses and explore the rolling hills.
Being a creative entrepeneur, he then decided a portion of the valley on the acrage would be an ideal spot for a car racing track , the hillside perfect for the viewing audience , offices, etc.

The whole finished project (engineered by Mr. Yamamoto, of Surrey) was pretty spectacular, and the years of racing there were incredible for all involved, the racers are still talking about actually being paid !!!

The passion of the members of the Langley Speedway Historical Society to revive “the track” through memorabelia, the gathering of all those who were once involved and using the still pristine oval in creative ways for all to experience is so admirable and I can’t tell you how pleased our Dad would be to think that his vision was being revisited as a venue for such varied uses. His family is also so very pleased and certainly hopes the Langley Speedway Track will continue to be visited and used by as many as possible.

The friendly pilot, Alex commented and interpreted a spectacular sight-seeing tour that started and ended on the Fraser River. We had a bird’s-eye view of the new Golden Ears bridge and mountains, Alouette Lake and the Fraser Valley. Everyone was pleasantly surprised at the smooth flight and landing. The “Golden Ears Mountain Tour” was definitely a highlight of the Langley visit!

Langley, BC, Canada, JULY 18, 2009 — Tribal Spirit Gallery brings the rich cultural traditions of the North West Coast Natives inland to the Fraser Valley. Appearing live at Tribal Spirit Gallery for an afternoon of cultural interaction, Andy Everson and the K’umugwe Dancers. Through song and dance, the K’umugwe dancers weave the roots of their ancestors and beliefs through stories upheld by a long tradition of oral history telling. Engaging movements and heart stopping drums beat with a force that leaves an indelible impression on those who come to share in the experience.

The Kumugwe Dancers take great pride in preserving the ancient traditions of their ancestors. Through sharing the songs and dances of the K’omoks and Kwakwaka’wakw peoples, the K’umugwe Dancers feel that they are able to help facilitate respect and understanding within the local community and communities abroad. Taking their name from the traditional Big House that sits within the heart of the K’omoks First Nation, members of the dance troupe have been practicing and performing together since 2001. The K’umugwe Dancers feel that by encouraging young members of their community to learn the ancient songs and dances of their people, they will ensure the survival of the culture for generations to come.

Andy Everson was born in Comox, BC in 1972 and named Nagedzi after his grandfather, the late Chief Andy Frank. Influenced heavily by his grandmother, he has always been driven to uphold the traditions of both the K’omoks and Kwakwaka’wakw First Nations. In this regard, Andy has pursued avenues where he can sing traditional songs and perform ceremonial dances at potlatches and in a number of different dance groups, most notably the Le-La-La Dancers and the K’umugwe Dancers. Pursuing other areas of traditional culture has also led Andy to complete a Master’s degree in anthropology. Because the Comox First Nation lies on the border between the larger Salish and Kwakwaka’wakw realms, his thesis focused on notions and expressions of contemporary Comox identity. His work in anthropology provided him with a background in linguistics which subsequently inspired him to create a company, Copper Canoe, Inc, that specializes in the creation of Aboriginal language CD-ROMs.
