A Day at the Zoo
Even as a young adult, I thought a day at the Greater Vancouver Zoo would be fun, and indeed it was!
Arriving just after the lion feeding meant that the lions were very active, and close to the fence. We got a nice close up view as they circled for more food. Having not been to the zoo since I was little, I didn’t know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised by the facility. The animals all seemed very content, and those that were running around appeared to be having fun play in their enclosures. A little arctic fox has having a great time running up and down and through holes in a large tree.
A highlight of the trip had to be the North American Wilds bus tour that took us right into the enclosures of the grizzly bear, brown bears (which also include an albino brown bear), wolves, elk and bison. The brown bears had just been fed, so we got to see them enjoying their fruit.
A popular attraction to see is the giraffes, which includes a baby giraffe. Watching the giraffes eat was neat, as they wrap their black tongues around a branch and pull, getting all the leaves off to eat in quick motion.
All in all, the day was a great experience, and I would definitely return.
